A Study On The Effects Of 4 Different Storage Media On Avulsed Teeth By Using Cell Culture Method
Aylin KALAYCI*, İsmet GÜRKAN** Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the viability of cultured human periodontal ligament (PDL) cells in Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS), milk, saline and saliva.
Material and Method: Cells were exposed to media for 30 min, 1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48, 72 and 96 hours at 20 C. The morphological changes were examined and photographs taken.
Results: Our results showed that HBSS gave the best result as a storage medium for PDL cells since 50 % of cells were healthy and attached after 96 h.Milk was a suitable medium and 50 % PDL cells remained healthy and attached for 72 h. 25 % of PDL cells in saline remained attached to the plates for only 12 h.
Conclusion: We concluded that at room temperature HBSS and milk were suitable however saliva was not a suitable storage media for PDL cells. Keywords: Avulsed teeth, storage mediaTurkiye Klinikleri J Dental Sci 1997, 3:104-108
