Surgical Anatomy Of The Paranasal Sinuses-cadaver And Ct Study Ii-sinus Ethmoidales And Sphenoidalis
Atıf AydInlIoğlu*, Semih DİyarbakIrlI**, Bayram Ufuk ŞakUl***,Papatya Keleş****, Halil Arslan*****, Muzaffer KIRIŞ****** Purpose: Many years of endoscopic investigations and observations revealed that paranasal sinus infections are usually rhinogenic, spreading from nose into sinuses. The common focus of infection in cases of recurring sinusitis is usually in the stenotic areas of the anterior ethmoid. Improvement of endoscopic sinus surgery requires determination of detailed anatomy of paranasal region by dissection and radiology. In the second part of this two-tiered research, we examined the surgical anatomy and variations of ethmoid and sphenoid sinuses.
Materials and Methods: Ten cadaver heads and 300 CT were used in this study. By cadaver dissections, these two paranasal sinuses were examined with respect to endonasal surgery. In the CT study, special attention was directed toward identifying anatomic variations.
Results and Conclusion: It has been found that these two sinuses have had important variations. We believe that our study will contribute to further studies regarding the anatomy of paranasal sinuses. Keywords: sinus ethmoidales, sinus sphenoidalis, surgical anatomy, CTTurkiye Klinikleri J Dental Sci 1997, 3:71-78
