T1DM could occur in patients with Coeliac disease, like as Coeliac disease could occur in patients having T1DM. Oral signs such as, enamel defects, recurrent aphtous stomatitis lesions, larged forehead and osteoporosis could be seen in patients having Coeliac disease. Contrary, the caries incidence is decreased. The aim of this article is to is to present and discuss Coeliac disease and its oral findings and to report a patient with Coeliac disease who referred to our clinic to receive dental treatment.
A 19 year old female patient referred to our clinic to receive dental treatment. The history was taken from the patient revealed that she had T1DM and Coeliac disease and juvenil osteoporosis. Extraoral examination revealed a larged forehead and facial asymmetry. According to the intraoral examination, there was destructive periodontal diseases affecting all of her teeth but neither enamel defects nor RAS was found. Although there was a vast dental biofilm accumulation existing on the teeth and the patient had a poor oral hygiene status, only one tooth had a carious lesion.
Patients having Coeliac disease could refer to receive dental treatment, therefore dentists should have a knowledge about the disease and its oral findings. Keywords: Coeliac disease; diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, caries, aphtous stomatitisTurkiye Klinikleri J Dental Sci 2007, 13:114-120
