Focal Cemento-osseous Dysplasia

Generally it occurs posterior mandible with greater frequency in women than men. Radiologically this lesions represents pure radiolucent, radiopaque or mixed radiolucent and radiopaque appearance. In this article a rare case of focal cemento-osseous dysplasia in the maxillary molar region has been reported.
A 17 year old male patient was admitted to the University of Ankara Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with the complaint of painless swelling on left maxillary molar and premolar teeth one year duration. Intraoral examination and palpation revealed a firm, painless and stable mass on the previously mentioned area. Also oral mucosa was normal appearance. Surgical excision of the lesion was under local anesthesia. Previous cemento-osseous histopathologic examination result was confirmed. On 4.5 year follow-up examination revealed that healing was uneventful with no recurrence.
Focal cemento-osseous dysplasias are mentioned among the reactive lesions group. It’s aetiology and pathogenesis is unclear . However originated histogenetically from periodontal ligament.
