Squamous Cell Carcinoma On Lower Lip At Early Period: Case Report

aOral Diagnoz ve Radyoloji ABD, bAğız, Diş, Çene Hastalıkları ve Cerrahisi ABD, GATA Dişhekimliği Bilimleri Merkezi, cPatoloji ABD, GATA, ANKARA Squamous cell carcinomas are skin cancers derived from kerati-nocytes nearby the surface of the skin and are the most frequent malign neoplasms in oral cavity. The aim of this case report is to present squamous cell carcinoma of the lip and to emphasize that neoplastic formations should be a serious consideration in patients with complaints of lesions of the lip occuring because of chronic irritation. Fifty six year-old male patient referring to department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology, GMMA Dentistry Sciences Center with complaints of a non-healing ulcer on lower lip. In intraoral examination, there was a single ulceration measuring 0.5X1 cm with surrounding slight hyperkeratinization. Excisional biopsy was per-formed and histopathologic examination of the ulceration revealed tumour composed of squamous cell carcinoma areas. It was observed that the character of the lesion was malign and the tumour carried on the operation borders. No pathological findings was present on neck tomography. The rest of the tumour was eliminated by a second operation and the histopathologic examination revealed no positive findings of the operation borders. The patient was suggested to protect from sunlight, chronic irritations and follow about food diet.Keywords: Carcinoma, squamous cell; sunlightTurkiye Klinikleri J Dental Sci 2008, 14:37-42
