These benign neoplasms of mature adipose tissue occur infrequently in the oral region as a asymptomatic, freely movable masses. Lipomas represent about 1 to 5% of all neoplasms of the oral cavity and most commonly are seen in the cheek. The aetiology is uncertain. Tumor development may reflect increased mitotic activity of adipose cells via a traumatic or metabolic trigger mechanism. In most of the cases slow growing asymptomatic lesions are noticed by the patients when they are small in diameter. So big lipomas can not be encountered easily in the oral and maxillofacial practice. A 47 year-old male patient was referrred to the Ankara University Dentistry Faculty, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a complaint of the mass which was at the right cheek region. Tumor was excised under general anesthesia with an intra-oral approach. Biopsy of the tumor confirmed histological apperance of lipoma. The patient was 3 year followed up and revealed that the healing was complete and uneventful. Keywords: Lipoma; cheek; soft tissue neoplasmsTurkiye Klinikleri J Dental Sci 2008, 14:43-46
